Paint Correction for the Binghamton Area
Restore your paint's shine by removing the imperfections that have built up over time.
Remove the Swirls and Get the Most Gloss and Clarity From Your Paint
The goal of paint correction is to remove swirls and imperfections so your paint can really shine. Through a one-step correction process, I can aim to remove a significant portion of the imperfections in your paint and restore noticeable gloss and clarity to your paintwork.
Some scratches and imperfections are too deep to fully remove, whether it's the depth of the scratch, the type of defect, or a panel where the clear coat is too thin to safely polish. That's where I make the proper judgment call on what can be safely corrected. It's not just about removing as many imperfections as possible, it's also knowing when to stop to keep the integrity of your paint healthy.
It all comes down to what you want to achieve and the current condition of your paint.
Even New Vehicles Need Paint Correction
And yes, even if your car is just a few months off the lot, the paint can still have significant swirls and imperfections. The vehicle has been transported, washed, stored, and handled by a lot of different people in a lot of different places before it ever reached you. By the time you drive it home, the paint has already taken some abuse.
Paint correction is a commitment to your vehicle. To get the most out of the service, you have to maintain it properly afterward. If you go back to improper washing and drying habits, you can put those swirls right back into the paint in just a few washes.
This is the most time-intensive service I offer. Depending on the vehicle, the condition of the paint, and the results you're after, it can take anywhere from six to eight hours to complete.

The Tripp's Paint Correction Process
I've worked on all types of vehicles in all kinds of conditions. Whether it's a car you want to preserve for years or a new-to-you vehicle you'd like to freshen up, I use the same thorough process on every job.
Here's a general breakdown of what the service includes:
Clean wheels, tires, and fenders: The detail starts with a thorough cleaning of the wheel faces, tires, and inner fender liners.
Foam hand wash: The vehicle gets a thick layer of foam and a gentle hand wash, including the door jambs, gas cap, and any bugs on the paint.
Chemical decontamination: I use a chemical iron remover to pull contaminants from the paint surface before any polishing begins.
Clay bar treatment: This removes any remaining embedded dirt and debris. Your paint will feel noticeably smoother after this step.
Tape off sensitive areas: Any trim, chrome, or sensitive areas get taped off to prevent polish buildup or staining.
Polishing phase: Using a machine polisher, I work through the paint to safely remove swirls, light scratches, and surface defects to restore gloss and clarity.
Paint wipe down: I wipe the paint clean to inspect the true condition and make sure nothing is being hidden under polish residue.
Apply paint protection: Once the correction is complete, I apply a wax or sealant to protect the freshly polished paint.
Dress tires, plastic, and trim: All exterior plastic and trim gets dressed to a clean, even finish. No greasy residue.
Clean exterior glass: All exterior windows and mirrors are cleaned streak-free.
Final inspection: I do a full walk-around to touch up anything that needs attention before calling the job done.

How Long Do the Results Last?
The goal of paint correction is to remove swirls, scratches, water spots, and any other imperfections so your paint can shine the way it's supposed to. Once the job is done, the difference is going to be noticeable.
The key to keeping those results is proper maintenance. You'll want to stay away from automated car washes that use high-speed bristles. Those bristles are constantly slapping your paint, and if they have dirt or debris embedded in them from previous washes, they're going to scratch your paint or worse. I've seen cars come in with deep scratches across the paint from rocks or debris that got dragged along the surface during an automated wash.
The same goes for hand washes that use low-quality mitts and drying towels. It can take only a few washes to put the swirls right back in and kill the gloss you just paid to restore.
Whether I maintain the car for you or you do it yourself, the goal is simple, proper washes with the right tools and products to keep your paint looking its best.
When done right, you might only need a light polish once every other year to clean things up and get your paint back up to standard.
The Right Tools and Products for the Best Results
Getting your paint corrected properly takes more than one tool or product. I use a range of professional-grade polishers, pads, and compounds to get the job done right. Here's a breakdown of what I rely on:
Polishers: Polishers are the backbone of any paint correction job. They come in different sizes and types, rotary, dual action, and forced rotation, each serving a purpose depending on the panel, the clear coat, and what we're working with. For larger surfaces like the hood I'll use a bigger machine to work through swirls efficiently. For tighter areas like bumpers, a smaller polisher gives me the precision I need.
Pads: The pad is what makes direct contact with your paint and plays a big role in the process. Different pads are designed for different levels of cutting and polishing. Microfiber and foam pads offer varying levels of cutting power for medium and light imperfections. Before I start, I figure out different pad and compound combinations to best approach for your specific paint.
Compounds and polishes: Just like the polishers and pads, compounds and polishes come in a range of strengths. Heavier compounds are used to knock out deeper swirls and scratches, while finer polishes are used to refine the finish and bring out maximum gloss. Every choice I make is based on your vehicle's paint and what I'm trying to achieve.
Paint Correction FAQs
Where are you located? I'm a mobile detailer serving the Binghamton area and surrounding region. I come to you, so there's no need to drop your car off anywhere. Depending on the condition of the paint and the size of the vehicle, the service can take six to eight hours to complete.
What tools and products do you use? I use a variety of polishers, pads, compounds, polishes, and lights to get the job done. I have 3" and 5" polishers to work any panel or tight area on the vehicle.
What's the difference between a wax and paint correction? A wax doesn't remove swirls or scratches, it only hides the very lightest ones and can be done in a few hours. Paint correction actually removes the swirls from your paint, which is what makes it shine the way it does. It takes significantly more time and effort to complete.
My paint is chipping. Can you still polish it? If a panel is chipping, cracking, or heavily oxidized it may be too far gone to work on safely. That said, if other panels on the vehicle are still in good shape I can polish those normally. If the paint is beyond what correction can fix, the next step would be getting that panel repainted.
Does the color of my car matter? The process is the same regardless of color, but darker vehicles like black show swirls and imperfections much more than lighter colors like white. Black looks great but it's the hardest to maintain because every little imperfection shows in direct sunlight.
How often do I need to get my paint corrected? This isn't a service you should need every year. You have a limited amount of clear coat on your paint and the more it gets polished, the more gets removed. That's why proper washing habits matter, they help you protect the results and avoid needing correction done more often than necessary.
